Beach 2

Much happier with this – seems to be fewer imperfections in the development. As for the composition – I think this is one of the better photos that I have managed to take.

This turned out to be a photo I like, but the developing and scanning, not too good. I will need to find out how to avoid the vertical lines on the film. I do not know what cayuses this – and there could be many reasons. I have determined that it is not a result of bad scanning as I can see the lines on the negative. I will need to research this.

Took this picture for the contrast between the phone box, the shadow and the light of the pavement. I think maybe it is a bit of a ‘pointless’ picture. Can’t see exactly what it is ‘about’. Does it matter?

A Field Near Stratford

These were taken after seeing a field near Stratford-upon-Avon, with barley growing high – although not yet ripe. I tried to take some pictures focusing on the texture of the stalks of plants. I am not quite sure how successful it was. I have seen pictures of the texture of a field with the plants almost looking as if they are moving in the wind. I don’t think I managed to capture this movement or texture, but I got some way towards what I was after. I need to look really carefully at each picture and think very hard about what I was attempting to capture – and see how it did or, more importantly, how it didn’t fit what I attempted to get out of the picture. Maybe I can’t quite see this until I have lived with the pictures for quite a while. I will come back to looking at these in a while and see what I think I can do next time.

I have a series of these pictures. The idea I had was to get good contrast – so that the stalks of wheat or barley (whatever it is) were each very distinct and the vertical lines were emphasised. As soon as I saw the field I could see some potential photographs in my mind, which I think is a good thing, even if the results were mixed. I still am working on getting the exposure the way I want. I think looking at photographers work which is my target ‘look’ might help.
